This heavy duty ice cream scoop was hand turned from exotic Padauk wood. The item has a durable finish designed to take daily use and even a little mild abuse. That isn't to say you should take it swimming or hit it with a hammer, just that is should provide years of trouble free use under those conditions typically associated with scooping ice cream. Two important notes: (1) Do not immerse this in water or put it in the dishwasher...hand wash carefully (2) Do not leave this item in direct sunlight for long periods of time...all natural woods will bleach with exposure to UV radiation.

The real question here is, "what do you want?" Particularly with items like pens, coffee scoops, bottle toppers/openers, ice cream scoops, etc, I have dozens of types of wood from which I can make these items. If I don't have that wood, it's likely I can easily get it for you. I'd also be glad to make suggestions based on less specific preferences such as color, texture or rarity.
Any of the hand made items created from wood will have a durable finish already applied. You should never use strong chemicals or abrasives on these products. Mild household cleaners should be fine. This may be obvious but do NOT immerse any of these in water! If you need to clean the metal pieces, be very careful about getting the wood portions overly wet. Oh, and keep all finished wood products away from heat sources and especially sunlight. All wood finishes will change color over time. That's one of the ways you know it is real wood. Leaving finished wood in direct sunlight is almost certain to bleach out the color. UV rays and wood do not play well together.
Unless otherwise indicated in the listing...yes! In my own workshop with my own hands and tools. For the pens, bottle stoppers and other items with fancy metal pieces, those were most likely part of a kit. And yes, everyone else selling those items is probably using the same kits. If someone tries to convince you they make every part of those type items themselves, I would be highly skeptical. It's certainly possible and if the item looks truly unique then it's much more likely. A bolt action pen with a bullet shaped tip taking a Parker pen refill comes from a kit. The magic is in what you create with that kit and the quality with which you create it.
Mostly because I'm a one person operation and have a full time "day" job. I also travel quite a bit for work and otherwise. If I have the item in stock (not a custom order) and I'm at home, you should get your order MUCH sooner than the projected time. I just want to set realistic expectations. If you need it sooner because Bubba-Joe is getting married next week or your favorite co-worker Matilda is retiring, send me a note and I'll see what I can do. I also have the store set up for express shipping if necessary. Please contact me first, though, if it's that urgent. I don't want you paying anymore than necessary!
